In late 2018 I was motivated to sort through the pens, pencils, markers, pastels, and so on that I have accumulated over the years. While scribbling a pen to see if it worked, I realized this needed to be done as drawing. And this ongoing series was born, both on 14″ x 17″ as featured here and 11″ x 14″ Bristol board. So all these neglected supplies finally have a way to serve their function. I approach these as I do my paintings in their layered composition. The difference between painting and drawing make these a valid and beautiful exposé into automatist exploration.
